We are in the beginning of flu season. If your child has a fever, please keep him/her home until the fever is gone for 24 hours. We know it is not easy to miss school, but staying home when sick helps keep everyone else healthy.

The 5210 Program focuses on four numbers to live by every day:
5 portions or more of fruits and vegetables
2 hours or less of recreational screen time
1 hour or more of physical activity
0 servings of soda and sugar-sweetened drinks
Playing the sport of basketball is a great way to get fit or to stay strong and healthy! It’s also a lot of fun to play with your family and friends.
Dribbling, passing, and shooting hoops, are some of the basketball skills that you learn when playing this sport. Regular exercise, even 10 minutes at a time helps your heart, lungs, and bones.
So find a local neighborhood basketball court, invite your friends,
and enjoy this fun and heart- powered game!

Our Country Faire was a day filled with fun, food and beautiful weather. The event had a true community feel. So many current and past families attended. The inflatables were a huge hit! The carnival games under the red and white festive tents were enjoyed by everyone. Of course the cake walk was full all day long. The Silent Auction was a great event for the adults too. The Silent Auction and Country Faire raised a record amount for our school programs! Many books were purchased in our Book Fair too! A big thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped throughout the day.

On Thursday, October 31st students may wear their costumes to school, however no masks, face paint or toy weapons (guns, swords, knives, etc.) are allowed at school. We will have a Halloween Parade at 8:30 am on the upper yard playground. Please make sure to send a change of clothes with your child(ren) to school as all students will be required to change out of their costumes and into their clothes once the parade concludes.

Our fifth grade students and teachers took park in the Escape the Bus interactive experience last week. This bus travels the country providing a team-building and professional development experience students, educators, and administrators. Students will have to work as a team in order to go through each station to discover the secrets of lifelong learning. In the process of finding clues, you will learn about new technology to use in the classroom and the importance of student voice. Most of all, you will have fun! In addition to playing the game, our facilitators will lead a discussion on how this kind of learning can be applied to the classroom.

The Silent Auction is on Saturday, October 19th 11am – 3pm. Make sure to come and bid on over 100 amazing items that include all the wonderful classroom baskets and the unique VIP experiences your child can experience with the teachers and staff! Online bidding opens next week, and will close Thursday, October 17th at 8 pm. Make sure to invite all your family, friends and neighbors. This is going to be an incredible event!

Walking, biking, and scootering are fun ways to travel to school. There’s so much to see, smell, touch, think, and talk about along the way. Also, it’s a great way to get fit, stay strong, and healthy! Helmets are a must for safe cycling. Walkers and cyclists also help drivers to slow their speeds and use caution in neighborhoods and schools. Stay heart healthy and have a fun time as you walk, bike, or scooter your way to school!

On Friday, October 4th, our fifth-grade classes are hosting their annual Cardboard Challenge during lunch. The Cardboard Challenge is an engineering project students complete as part of the Next Generation Science Standards. Students make their own game based on their design. Games will cost 25 cents each to play. All proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund. Please send your 1st-4th grade student to school with quarters if you would like them to participate.

We are looking forward to the Country Faire, scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 19th from 11am - 4pm. There will be carnival games and treats to eat, inflatables, face paint, glitter tattoos, henna, cake walk, henna, glitter tattoos, just to name a few of the fun things on tap. In order to make this a successful event, we rely on parent volunteers. We ask that each parent volunteer at least one hour to help to help run the booths!
