Forest Hill welcomed children's author Joanna Ho today for an assembly. She is the author of several books including Eyes that Speak to the Stars and One Day.  She shared her story, talked about how she became an author, read one of her books to the students, and answered questions. Our Falcons loved hearing from her and many found inspiration for their own writing! Thank you to Joanna Ho for the visit and to teacher Ms. Schubert for organizing this great opportunity.

Today marks the 90th day of school, which means we are halfway through the school year! It is true when they say time sure flies when you are having fun. As we hit that halfway mark, we are starting to see an increase of absences and we would like to remind you it is important for you to communicate with us around the reason why your child(ren) is/are absent.

To report an absence or tardy, please send an email to dfigueira [at] campbellusd.org, or call the 24 hr. school attendance line at (408) 341-7132 before 9:00am.

Please provide the following information:

  • Date of absence

  • Student’s name and teacher

  • Your relationship to student

  • Reason for absence. Excused and Unexcused absences are listed in the student handbook. (link: 2022-2023 Parent Handbook)

Additionally, we are in need of another parent volunteer to assist with lunch duty on Mondays from 11:40-12:55. If you are interested, please reach out to Assistant Principal Armann at carmann [at] campbellusd.org (c)armann [at] campbellusd.org. It’s a fun way to spend time with our Falcons, and training is provided!

We had another amazing performance at Forest Hill. On Wednesday night, our Kindergarteners performed the Lost Kittens for a packed house in our cafeteria. This play is a special tradition for the kindergarten team and displayed backgrounds made by Forest Hill families as well as had support during production from Ms. Nulty in TK and retired Forest Hill kindergarten teacher. Parents and students enjoyed refreshments after the play and enjoyed the evening.

We thank our Kindergarten team, Ms. Cittadino, Ms. Hannan and Ms. Unsinger for the work that went into preparing for the play before, during and the after the show.

Congratulations to December's Falcon Wing raffle winners! Forest Hill Falcons are recognized for their responsible, respectful, and safe behavior. Whenever a student is "caught" following our school expectations, she or he may earn a Falcon Wing ticket from a staff member. Starting in December, we will have a monthly raffle for students who turn in their Falcon Wing tickets to a box in the library. Winners get a special lunch where as VIPs, they "dine in style" with a friend and get a couple of special treats! December's Dining in Style was holiday themed and students enjoyed their fun bobble headbands. Our next raffle will be held at the end of January!

Dear Forest Hill Community,

Over the last couple of weeks we have had some amazing activities and events from our Falcons. Please read below to hear all about it!

Student Craft Fair

After putting our student craft fair on hold for a couple of years due to COVID, we were able to hold our annual event in our new lunch area (newly named the Picnic Grove). For this event, 3rd-5th grade students submit an application for a craft they hand make to sell for profit. PTA received over 90 applications this year and were able to accept around half. Students happily ran their tables and had many happy customers. It was great to see our creative little entrepreneurs learn the basics of commerce. Thank you PTA for organizing the event.

Science Camp

This year marked our inaugural year for 5th graders attending Science Camp. Students went up to the Marin Headlands to spend 3 days and 2 nights hiking, exploring newt ponds, attending learning labs, learning about animals and ecosystems, gathering around the campfire, and for many, sleeping away from home for the first time. Ms. Chalfant and Mrs. Armann were able to go up and visit one of the days, which students were very happy to see! Teachers expressed that the food was good, the leaders were amazing and the views were beautiful. We are so happy they were able to attend. We also wanted to thank the Assistance League of Los Gatos Saratoga for donating money which helped complete the payment for four 5th graders to attend.

Sacred Heart Holiday Donation

Our Student Leadership Group teamed up with our PTA in efforts of collecting canned and dry goods to donate to Sacred Heart for the holidays. We are proud to report we were able to donate one full bin of food, for those in our community who need it. Bravo!

We are very proud of the efforts our Falcons have put toward their learning and community efforts and for the support of our teachers, parents and community members for making it all happen.

Warmly,

Christy Chalfant, Principal

Chelsea Armann, Assistant Principal
