Students in Mrs. Ferrari's third grade class were given 2 pieces of construction paper, 12 inches of tape, a ruler and scissors. They had 30 minutes to construct the longest paper chain their team could make. In this one math lesson, students demonstrated all five Profile of a Graduate competencies. They communicated about how they were going to use the materials. They collaborated to make the chains and use the tape accordingly. They were self directed in the design process. They used their critical thinking skills to ensure they didn't run out of tape while trying to make the longest chain. They were empathic with each other when the chain would break and they had to start again. Our students are learning key competencies to ensure they graduate from the Campbell Union School District with the necessary skills for their future.

Please walk our campus with your child to review the PBIS behavior signs posted around our school. Also, please review the attachment with your child about the expected behavior for our campus. Students need to be able to explain the expected behavior for all locations on our campus. We need all families to support our after school behavior expectations. Students who are waiting for their older sibling to be dismissed need to wait quietly at the picnic tables. Students are not to be playing on the field or blacktop from 2:20-2:47. School is in session for grades 4th and 5th. Please wait by the tables near the cafeteria. Thank you for supporting our teachers and students. Also, if adults need to use the restroom, please come to main office. Student bathrooms are for children only.

Forest Hill is pleased to announce the continued use of the Toolbox Social Emotional Program. TOOLBOX is a research-based, community-tested Kindergarten through sixth grade social and emotional learning (SEL) program that strengthens children’s innate capacity for resilience, self-mastery and empathy for others through its curricula, methods, and practices.This program will directly align with our Profile of a Graduate focus this year. Students will learn skills to increase their understanding of Empathy, Collaboration and Self Direction. Please check out this 2 minute video about the program.

Please join us for our annual Welcome Back BBQ on Friday, September 13th. The BBQ will happen during the regular lunch period. To participate, just let your child's teacher know you are eating hot lunch on the day of the BBQ. The BBQ will take the place of the normal hot lunch menu. There is no extra charge in the cost of the BBQ lunch for our students! Each adult meal will cost $4.00.

Thank you for participating in our recent survey about how best to communicate school events, information and share ideas. Based on your feedback, our Parent Teacher Association has created a Facebook group for all Forest Hill families and community members to join. The goal of this group is to create a space for building community by sharing events, photos, videos and resources. We would also like to streamline communication to ensure all are involved and informed. This group is password protected.
