Rotations in Ms. Sarsfield’s Second Grade Class

Small group instruction supported by volunteers.

In an effort to meet students’ different instructional levels, rotations are planned where students work collaboratively in small groups. Volunteers come weekly into Ms. Sarsfield’s class and support students as they read non-fiction articles. As students take turns reading, the volunteers ask questions to ensure comprehension and to hold conversations about the article being read. While the volunteers work with their small group, the other students are working at other stations, freeing up Ms. Sarsfield to also pull small groups and provide intervention as needed.
