Our Forest Hill students and staff created Veterans' Day cards and placed them at the Quito Starbucks. We wanted to show our appreciation for our community members who have served. We received a call from the manager to let us know other people have placed gift cards in this basket as well. Please stop by to check out our beautiful cards!

Our fifth grade students took part in a video conference call with Roger Storm from NASA. Students learned about weather and land formations. Students were also able to ask and answer questions. It was truly an interactive and powerful learning experience for all. Thank you to Lalita Godbole for bringing this STEM learning opportunity to Forest Hill.

playing cardboard game

Fifth graders in Mrs. Yang’s class took on the Cardboard Challenge and gained skills in math, design, engineering and more.

They were inspired by the movie “Caine’s Arcade” to create games from cartons, egg crates, and other ordinary materials. A project of the Imagination Foundation, the Global Cardboard Challenge lets children explore their interests and passions while teaching valuable "21st century" skills like critical thinking, resourcefulness, perseverance and teamwork. The students made prototypes, tested, and modified their designs to prepare for a school event featuring their hand-made games of skill.

They also learned some business basics, such as marketing, pricing, and the importance of considering feedback from “customers." Their event raised over $200 in donations to the Second Harvest food bank.

The Fall Book Fair last week was a great success.  We sold almost 1,600 books!  That translates into almost 285,000 reading minutes by our kids.  Plus, we raised almost $4,500 for the Forest Hill and classroom libraries.  The Fall Book Fair is the main source of funding for the Forest Hill Library.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the Fair and to all the kids, parents, and family members who visited the Fair to help encourage a love of reading.

If you missed the Fair or couldn't find a book you were looking for, our Online Fair goes through Friday, Oct 30th and includes free shipping of your books to the school:  http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/foresthill2015

Please be aware of  the following information about the safety protocols for our campus. In the event of a natural disaster or school emergency, the following steps will occur.

  • A voice message will be sent to all families. Please ensure you are receiving our automated calls. If you need to add or delete a phone number, please come to the main office.
  • All students will be released to authorized adults (parents and emergency card permission adults). If you need to add or change a name on your emergency card, please come to the main office.
  • All students will be picked up on our back field. The front gates will remain locked. All parents and family members will need to walk down the fire lane next to the softball field. There will be a table set up for adults to show their ID and pick up their child.
  • We encourage all adults coming to campus to walk and/or park at the church. We need to leave ample room for emergency vehicles.
