Happy Spring! This Friday, April 19th is our annual Walk-A-Thon fundraiser. All family members are welcome to walk with us. We begin walking at 1:00pm. This is a one of my favorite events of the year. I love seeing our community come together to cheer and support our students. This fundraiser helps cover the cost of student field trips, Mrs. Hardt's Art Program and our school librarian Mrs. Reed. Thank you for your donations!

Today, Thursday our PTA is asking families to bring in an extra brown bag lunch for a friend in need.  We will be collecting bag lunches in front of the office AND at the drop off loop until 8:30am. Look for the brown buckets at these locations. For a complete list of acceptable food items, please check the flyer in your child's Friday folder or via PeachJar. All lunches will be delivered to Santa Maria Urban Ministries that morning and distributed that day.  Thank you for your generous donations!

Continuing the success from last year, we will again be collecting books throughout the month of April. All books will be donated to help children in the South Bay. San Jose Night Walks is an organization that makes weekly visits to San Jose neighborhoods with high crime rates. Books are distributed every Friday night during summer and are in great demand. Currently their inventory is very low. Please drop off your books outside the school library by April 30th.

If you will be going on vacation, try to plan them on school holidays. If you not able to, and will be gone 2 days or longer, please come into the office and inquire about an Independent Study Agreement.

Please notify the office every day that your child is absent from school.  To report an absence, call 408-341-7132 for the 24 hr. attendance line.

If you have seen a medical professional, please bring us a doctor's note to have your child's absence medically verified.

Your student is allowed 10 days of parent verified absence due to an illness for the school year. After the 10 days, you will need to bring in a doctor's note to clear the absences.

Vacations are not excused absences. Vacation and absences other than illness are considered unexcused and will generate truancy letters.

Work will advance STEM education and foster students developing 21st century problem-solving skills that are critical to any career.

Four teachers from two CUSD elementary schools were chosen to participate in the award-winning The Tech Academies fellowship program sponsored by The Tech’s Bowers Institute. They will join a cohort of 40 educators from other local school districts and expanded learning organizations, all of whom will develop leadership skills and expertise in engineering instruction.

Forest Hill's Jodi Howland and Julie Hart chose to specialize in Mechanical Engineering, and CSI's Alicia Hamilton and Julia Quintero chosen Software Engineering. They will be part of creating a growing network of STEM leaders supporting excellence in the community.

“In our commitment to preparing our students for their yet-to-be-defined futures, we know that STEM must be in the forefront of their learning—especially in Silicon Valley,” said District Superintendent Shelly Viramontez. “These teachers will be instrumental in training other Campbell USD educators across the curriculum in engineering and design thinking.”

During the two-year fellowship, the teacher cohorts will work closely with instructors from The Tech’s Bowers Institute. The software engineering cohort will also enjoy additional support from San Jose State University. Both groups will receive more than 90 hours of in-depth, hands-on professional development that will ultimately expose their K-12 students to engineering, fostering their development of 21st century problem-solving skills critical to any career and increasing the number and diversity of students pursuing engineering careers.
